Tax relief is available at the standard (low) rate of income tax on amounts that you pay your local authority for waste charges (service charges) OR certain similar charges by private operators.
The charge must be paid in a "timely manner" in order to claim the relief.
Prior to the Finance Bill 2002, there was a ceiling of €195 (£150) on the amount that could be claimed for relief.
Following on from the Finance Bill 2002, this ceiling has been abolished.
